Player position desync - causing you to be shot across the map from victim's local position

Kind of difficult to articulate, but I'll try. I'm unsure if this is caused by my connection, or the shooter's connection, or a bug.

Description:

Two different instances I have been killed and my body warps across the map to "where I was shot" but is nowhere near where I was on my screen, or I had been in that position 30 seconds prior.

The first instance was on mountainside: I walked from the roof stairs to the security room. I was then shot and killed, with my body warping back from security room all the way to the door connecting roof stairs hallway to the cubicle room. I was alone so I'm unsure if I lagged out and client prediction was just not showing me any rubberbanding or anything.

The second instance was on oceanside: I was out checking the back balcony, then went upstairs to bedroom, then back down the stairs again to check the basement. I was then shot by somebody near the zipline as if I was still standing on the back balcony. In this instance I was chatting with teammates and moving around, they were acknowledging me being on the stairs as well so I know it wasn't my connection in that instance.

My hypothesis:

I'm not familiar with Intruder netcode so I'm just gonna throw some things at the wall with hope they might be helpful. From my perspective it looks like client-side hit detection went wild and somebody dropped a bunch of packets or their game bugged etc, and they shoot me way after I wasn't (from the server and my perspective) standing in view but the server accepted that the shooter hit. It's either that or client prediction of my movement kept going for 30 seconds after I started dropping packets, but I really don't think so at least in the second scenario. Secret option C is cheating, but I don't find that very likely with such a small and friendly player base.
